Fear Helps Everyone…find a reason to doubt themselves!
Are you ever amazed, or confounded by the fact that, in spite of constant publication and dissemination of insights and techniques about how to free ourselves of fear, fear nevertheless persists?
It seems to me that ‘Self Doubt’ is one way to express the core of the problem. We may read a great article (like this one??) or hear a wonderful talk, but a little voice in our head say, “yeah, but…”
The list could go on. Do you see the self doubt hidden in these objections? To the first, second, and third comment, add the words “for me” at the end. Then the self doubt is apparent. I am not smart enough or strong enough to do it.
For the fourth comment — “I forget” –why? — are we not worth the effort. Add not good enought o not smart enough or strong enough. We become numb to the felt sense of the preciousness of our life. It is understandable that if we are numb to the felt sense of joyful preciousness of our being that we would easily have constant self doubt.
The fifth comment is about the speed of the mind’s reactivity. Fear happens so fast it seems like it is happening according to some universal law — “one has to be afraid in such a circumstance!” “Who am I (self doubt) to question this?”
Elephant Journal has published two blog posts of mine that will give you more insights about how to free yourself from fear.Elephant journal is a subscription site (only $12/year) but you can view 2 blogs per day for free without joining:
